This guest house was created from a deep respect for the ocean, the land and the connections between them. As a marine ecologist, I was drawn to the north of Fiji by its pristine coral reefs, thriving marine life and world class diving, but it was the warmth and generosity of the Fijian people that made this place feel like home. Guided by the spirit of vanua - the inseparable bond between people, land and sea - we've shaped a space that treads lightly on the earth.
Our hope is that during your stay you'll slow down, reconnect with nature and experience the comfort and ease of an island home, surrounded by rainforest, reef and sea.
Our guest house is named Latui, Fijian for the endemic bird, the Fijian Goshawk. There is a nesting pair of goshawks that call our verdant forest home and you are likely to hear from calling during the day. They are commonly spotted flitting between the branches of Vesi trees as they search for small prey like lizards. Latui is a powerful forest guardian that embodies our deep connection to nature
Our Eco Philosophy
At Latui our commitment to sustainability is not a trend but a deep-rooted promise to the Fijian Vanua - the land, the people and the spirit of Savusavu.
The promise begins at our door step. The rain that dances on our roofs is cherished, collected in catchment tanks to nurture our organic kitchen garden and to supply our rainfed showers. We responsibly take care of waste and practice recycling wherever possible as our commitment to a greener future.
The native forests on our property are testament to our dedication to preserve the beauty around us. For every guest who stays with us, we plant an indigenous tree so your legacy lives on at Latui.
Our small team includes our wonderful groundsman and housekeeper, both local to Savusavu, who bring genuine care, pride and the warm Fijian spirit to everything they do to make your stay memorable.
